I met Callie’s mom, Christie, while training for a marathon roughly five years ago. We became fast friends over the years. So, having the privilege of watching Callie grow and mature. When Christie approached me about photographing Callie’s senior portraits I truly felt honored.

How we got the idea

It struck me that she might be an excellent candidate for one of my dream locations! The “go with the flow” attitude she possesses makes creative photography fun and interesting. She doesn’t hesitate for a second if I suggest she wear rubber boots based on a location she has selected. In fact, she was the first of my Senior high school students to jump on board with my dream of using Bell’s Amusement Park in my portrait sessions.

Callie was a perfect first for our Bells Amusement Park Seniors – there is no other way I can describe this portrait other than stunning. As a matter of fact this portrait is now hanging on the wall in my digital darkroom.

Having worked with the owners of Bells in the past, and having such incredible memories of the place myself, it has become very important to me as a photo shoot location. From that love grew many others. Showcasing Tulsa’s treasures, old and new, has become a particular trademark of mine. Tulsa is steeped in so much history! Being able to incorporate the energy of these spaces is a huge highlight of my work. Now, as Tulsa goes through a rebirth of sorts, I’m finding that the new identity and energy mixing with the old is just full of incredible opportunity. Callie seems to instinctively understand that and provides an excellent focal point as I explore all the amazing locales Tulsa has to offer. This Tuesday she will cross the stage from my alma mater Broken Arrow High School (better known to students as BAHS) and turn her tassel. I am so incredibly proud of her and know she is destined to make a mark in many lives!
