Big or Small – Things you must do for a wedding.

Big wedding or small microwedding there are some things you must do.

Plan

This should go without saying but you will still need to plan the occasion. Leave little to chance – plan a venue, make a guest list. Decide how long you want the ceremony to last. Decide on a cake, music and all the other little details that are important to you.

Select a wedding coordinator

Even for a microwedding this is a MUST! Either hire a professional or select someone close to you that you trust to be the point person for the things that pop up on the wedding day. This will alleviate so much stress and you will enjoy the day more!

Decide what to wear

The reality is that anything you wear to your wedding is wedding attire. Whether you choose to dress upscale or very relaxed the options are wide open (particularly for micro weddings and elopements)

Register

In the past it was frowned upon to register for an elopement or second wedding, but the reality is that people are going to want to get you gifts. You are better off having a curated selection for them to pick from rather than leaving loved ones to guess what you like/need.

Give yourself permission.

Give yourself permission to make this day your own. Don’t like a unity candle? Don’t have one! Want to wear Hawiian shirts and flip flops? Do it. This is your celebration – you do you!

Set a budget

I have been at very expensive micro weddings as well as inexpensive microweddings. The sky is the limit! Figure out what you are willing to spend and stick to it.

Prioritize

Spend your money on the things that will last (like photographs). I am not just saying this because I am a photographer, but the reality is that  long after the tasty cake is gone, the dinner has been consumed and you have danced the night away these things will all fade into memories. The union between you and your spouse and the photos that document those wonderful memories will remain, and they’ll help you remember everything from your ceremony!
